Planned Giving

Planned Giving

Our Heritage Club is an association of friends of the Clubs who are leaving a legacy for the future of the communities we serve, by naming BGCSM in estate planning.

A Foundation for the Future

Since 1909, our Clubs have provided a safe haven for young people by offering quality programs and critically important relationships with nurturing and reliable adults.  Your support through a planned gift ensures that future generations of our children will have the opportunity to live successful lives in a safe, positive and caring environment.

How Can I Join?

It's easy. Indicate your intentions by signing and returning a simple enrollment form .

The most common type of planned gift is the Charitable Bequest - the simple naming of Boys & Girls Clubs of Southern Maine in your will. In most cases, the language to include is brief and straightforward, such as:  I devise and bequeath to Boys & Girls Clubs of Southern Maine, located in Portland, Maine, the sum of $$$ (or a % of my estate) to be used for its general charitable purposes.

Alternatively, you can designate a residual bequest:  I devise and bequeath to Boys & Girls Clubs of Southern Maine, located in Portland, Maine, all (or a %) of the rest, residue and remainder of my estate whether real, personal, or mixed, to be used for its general charitable purposes.

Boys & Girls Clubs offer a variety of other planned giving options, including:

  • Qualified pension plans
  • Gifts of Life insurance
  • Charitable Gift Annuities (see below)
  • Charitable Remainder Trusts

EXAMPLE: CHARITABLE GIFT ANNUITY (CGA)

How It Works
A CGA is a contract between you and our organization. You transfer property to us, and in exchange, we pay you fixed income for life.

The fixed income can be quite high depending on your age, starting at 69.5 years. A portion of your income stream may even be tax-free. You will receive a charitable deduction for your gift and the satisfaction of furthering our mission.

Types of Assets to Give

If you decide to fund a CGA with cash, a significant portion of the annuity income will be tax-free. You may make a gift of appreciated securities to fund a gift annuity and avoid a portion of the capital gains tax.

Receiving Payments Now with a Gift Annuity

If you'd like income now, transfer property in exchange for our promise to pay you fixed income beginning as early as this year. You'll receive a current income tax charitable deduction for the value of your gift to Boys & Girls Clubs.

Deferred Gift Annuity for Future Income

Perhaps you're not ready to begin receiving income until you retire. You can establish a deferred gift annuity, receive a charitable income tax deduction and receive payments at a future date. Best of all, because you deferred payments, your annual payment will be higher than with a current annuity. Contact us about date options for your future income.
