Health & Wellness
Boys & Girls Clubs of Southern Maine teach members to make choices that nurture their overall physical and mental well-being. Active healthy lifestyles are encouraged through team sports, swimming, and nutrition education. We also work hard to ensure that all members prioritize emotional wellness by encouraging mindfulness activities and healthy relationships. Programming varies from Club to Club.

Health & Wellness Programs
Healthy Meals & Snacks
Club members are served daily snacks and hot meals while attending the Club. Food programs through Preble Street, Portland Public Schools, Auburn Public Schools, South Portland Food Cupboard, The Locker Project, and Wayside Food Pantry allow BGCSM to ensure that Club members are eating healthy, balanced meals. This is a USDA Non-Discrimination Statement program, learn more here.
Health Education
Healthy Habits and Triple Play programs teach elementary and middle school members to make choices that nurture their overall physical and mental well-being including adopting healthy eating habits and engaging in physical activity.
Teen Health Education
SMART Moves programs help teens build a foundation for healthy attitudes and lifestyles by equipping them with critical knowledge and skills in areas of physical health and wellness, mental health, self-esteem, and relationships.
Club Sports
Club sports and leagues help develop physical fitness, reduce stress and promote a positive use of leisure time, appreciation for the environment and interpersonal skills. Sign up for our 5th and 6th grade basketball league here.
