From Club Kid to Counsel: Joshua Mutshaila’s Journey

From Club Kid to future lawyer, Joshua is the perfect example of how community and mentorship can change a life.  

Joshua’s journey with us has been nothing short of inspiring. Named our BGCSM Youth of the Year in 2020, he went on to earn dual degrees in Political Science and Criminology from the University of Southern Maine. Today, he’s hard at work earning his law degree from the University of Maine (Class of 2027!) and still finds time to volunteer and give back to our members. 

For Joshua, the Club was a launchpad both socially and academically: 

"The Club has been one of the most meaningful communities in my life... Socially, it gave me countless opportunities to build lasting relationships through networking, attending events, and connecting with people who genuinely cared about my growth." 

But the impact of the Club didn't stop at friendships. As Joshua pursued his academic goals, BGCSM continued to be in his corner. As a Club alum, he was awarded the Promise Scholarship, which provided financial support toward his college education by covering the cost of tuition and textbooks. That support has continued as Joshua works toward his law degree, helping him take the next steps toward his goal of becoming an attorney.

"Beyond the financial assistance, I was blessed with outstanding mentors who invested their time, wisdom, and encouragement in me," Joshua shares. "Their guidance played a tremendous role in shaping my character, strengthening my leadership, and helping me become the person I am today. I will always be grateful for the Club's lasting impact on my life."
