Alumni Profile - TOM COYNE
GIVING BACK TO THE PLACE THAT GAVE HIM SO MUCH

Southern Maine’s business community is a tightly knit network of talented and passionate professionals deeply committed to the future success of our youth.
You may know Tom Coyne from his longtime tenure at Unum and now leadership at Alliant Insurance Services, Inc.
But did you know that Tom is a Club Kid that grew up on Munjoy Hill and got his start at Boys & Girls Clubs of Southern Maine (then the Portland Boys Club)?
"The Portland Boys Club provided lessons that stayed with us long after we left, and I will always cherish those memories."
While it started as just a fun place to play sports, Tom quickly realized the Club was teaching him and his peers the foundational values that would shape the rest of their lives.
"Looking back, it was so much more than that. It was a place where we learned to build friendships with kids from many different backgrounds. We learned lessons about diversity, acceptance, kindness, resilience, and overcoming hardships."
Tom vividly remembers the incredible staff who treated every single child with the same level of respect, creating an environment where everyone belonged. "I am deeply grateful that my parents opened that door for us," Tom says, "giving us the opportunity to be part of such a special place and community."
Today, Tom is dedicated to opening those same doors for the next generation.
As an active board member and co-chair of our Resource Development Committee, Tom works tirelessly to ensure every Club kid has the resources they need to succeed. He is a true community connector, bringing in new supporters and even passing the torch to his own children, who generously support the Club as volunteers, golf tournament participants, and enthusiastic attendees at our annual Spring for the Kids fundraiser.
Thank you, Tom, for your decades of dedication and for showing us all what it truly means to give back to the place where it all began!
