Auburn/Lewiston Unit Director, Sherri Goulet and Club Youth of the Year,
Aimee Brooks represented their Club and the Greater Portland
organization at the conference,

through November 2nd in
Trumbull, Connecticut.
The
Keystone Club Program is for boys and girls ages 14 to 17, and instills
leadership skills and responsibility among Boys & Girls Club members.
The club activities span to national programs and special events, and
offer members activities in the following six areas: Service to Club and
Community; Education and Career Exploration; Free Enterprise; Social
Recreation; Unity; and Leadership Development.
This
fall, Keystoner Club members across the United States gathered at the
2003 Regional Conference in Connecticut to build their awareness and
understanding of Keystoning's core program areas, explore effective ways
to address community issues and develop lifelong skills. Auburn/Lewiston Club Keystoner, Aimee Brooks
and Advisor, Sherri Goulet attended the
conference to participate in a variety of interactive workshops,
off-site experiences and networking opportunities. There was a mix of social and recreational activities that included dances, games,
sporting activities, challenges, arts and crafts and much more.

“Keystoners are you motivated?"
“Highly motivated, Romero, highly motivated... (hands clap twice) HUH!”
“Keystoners are you dedicated?"
“Highly dedicated, Romero, highly motivated... (hands clap twice) HUH!”
“Who are you?”
“Keystone”
“Who?”
“Keystone”
.....and the crowd roared as the 2003
Northeast Regional TEENSupreme Keystone Conference was underway. With
the theme being “Laying the Foundation: Where it All Began”, Keystoners
from the Northeast region were able to participate in a plethora of
workshops, activities, and even experience (for some) their first
Broadway Show!
On Friday evening more than 400
Keystoners and their advisors took a two hour bus ride to Times Square
in New York City to see “42nd Street” to see They were captured and
mesmerized by the talent of so many people on stage. Saturday brought a
day filled with workshops and other projects for the Keystoners to
participate in, including the following:
• College Experience
• Community Service Project
• Working 9-5 (workshop)
• Why Do you Do it? Focusing on community service
• Pump it Up! Collaborations and partnerships
• Teen Meets World. Making good decisions as leaders
• Careers and Clubs. Career after college
• World of Difference, focusing on diversity and understanding
• The Drug Trap
Keystoners were even able to make chocolate covered strawberries with
the hotel chef, mmmm!
Saturday evening included a trip to the local Boys & Girls Club of
Naugatuck Valley in Shelton, CT. Club staff and volunteers prepared and served a wonderful meal as well as entertained the group! After dinner, the Keystoners participated in a costume dance, arts
and crafts, the Computer Zone, Fun and Games, Karaoke, and Three on
Three Basketball.
Sunday
was the day for recognition and reflection. Our own, Aimee Brooks, along
with another steering committee member, led the Awards Brunch as Master
of Ceremonies. The weekend was an experience that will forever be
remembered and cherished. More importantly, the Keystoners were given
the chance to make new friends, as well as gain a wealth of knowledge
from the sessions that were provided.
Cheers
to Aimee and Sherri for their continued dedication to the Boys & Girls Club of
Auburn/Lewiston and to the 2003 Northeast Regional TEENSupreme Keystone
Conference.
