2006 TD Banknorth Beach to Beacon
Saturday, August 5, 2006

Boys & Girls Clubs Immediate Partner of the
9th Annual TD Banknorth Beach to Beacon 10K Road Race!

Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Portland and Auburn/Lewiston gratefully acknowledges TD Banknorth for selecting the Clubs as beneficiary of the 2005 Beach to Beacon 10K Road Race.  This year, in 2006, Boys & Girls Clubs is listed as a "Beneficiary Charity".

The benefits of being associated TD Banknorth and the Beach to Beacon Road Race were numerous and have both long- and short-term positive impacts on our organization.  We were fortunate to have the time and attention of the media, many occasions to share the Clubs' mission with new audiences, opportunities to fund-raise, and of course the unconditional support of TD Banknorth—a corporation that is deeply committed to the success of the communities it serves.

As a previous beneficiary charity Boys & Girls Clubs have a small supply of paid places in the race for anyone who is willing to do some fundraising in exchange for a registration.  Please call Peggy at 874-1069.  If the line is busy leave a message at extension 300 or e-mail here: info@bgcmaine.org

On behalf of Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Portland and Auburn/Lewiston, thank you for your efforts, and thank you for supporting…The Positive Place for Kids!

Incorporated in 1909, our organization is a member of Boys & Girls Clubs of America and operates Clubhouses in Portland, South Portland, Auburn, and an extension in Portland’s Riverton Park Housing Development.  The four locations serve youth from 36 area towns with an average yearly total of 2,800 Club members. Hundreds more youth participate in sponsored activities at all locations. Membership fees are $5.00 a year, but no child is turned away based on his/her ability to pay.

Known for its positive atmosphere, the Clubs offer a broad spectrum of opportunities for school-aged children (ages 6-18) primarily during after-school hours, weekends and school vacation weeks. Club programs are designed to improve the success of children while meeting kids’ educational and emotional needs, challenging and nurturing them, and giving them the opportunity to interact with positive role models over a sustained period of time. All of our programs and activities center around developing skills in teamwork, personal health and safety, conflict resolution, resisting peer pressure, and citizenship and community service.
